Symbolism "The Californian's Tale"



1.       What are some symbols in the story?
A bedroom: white counterpane, white pillows, carpeted floor, papered walls, pictures, dressing-table, with mirror and pin-cushion and dainty toilet things; and in the corner a wash-stand, with real china-ware bowl and pitcher, and with soap in a china dish, and on a rack more than a dozen towels--towels too clean and white for one out of practice to use without some vague sense of profanation.

2.       Are there any objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?
All the things that is inside the bed room have the symbolic meaning. All the things inside is look clean, it is like just has been use by a girl not long ago. Usually the girl room a far more cleaner than a boy room.

3.       Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?
The wife act as symbols, the wife is like just go outside and still alive. It represent like that his wife did not died, but just going out for a while. It make Henry’s feel better and made him forget what the reality was.

4.       Do aspects of the story’s setting seem symbolic? In what way?
Yes, the setting seems symbolic, because inside the house in a room, all the things inside that room seem symbolic. Each thing is like just been touch a while ago and it is clean, but actually that room has no one touch it for a long time.

5.       Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?
The symbol used all throughout the story, the symbol didn’t change at all. The entire symbol is just representing his wife. All the things inside the room is a symbols, all the girls room are clean and arrange in proper unlike boy room, all the things is mess around.
