Tone "The Californian's Tale"



1.       What is the author’s attitude towards actions or events?
The author’s was also included in this story; the story is what the author experience in real life. The author attitude toward the action at first he feel very happy to see someone at this very far place that can’t see any life exist, but when the author know the story of the man name Henry’s he feel how Henry miss his wife.

2.       Is the story humorous or tragic or frightening? Does the author want you to laugh or cry, to feel happy or sad, to experience anger or fear?
This story have included all three, at first the story seem to be humorous, then after be deeper into that person name Henry, then you will be frightening at first and then fallow tragic. The author first lets as feel the happy that in a very far lonely place still have people live there. After that the author lets us feel the melancholy inside the main character of the story.

3.       What is the author’s attitude toward characters or the narrator? Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator?
The author attitude is for sure that he will trust the character in the story because this is all what had happen to him the real life. The author like the way the character are, the heart of the character didn’t change since the beginning until the end.

Symbolism "The Californian's Tale"



1.       What are some symbols in the story?
A bedroom: white counterpane, white pillows, carpeted floor, papered walls, pictures, dressing-table, with mirror and pin-cushion and dainty toilet things; and in the corner a wash-stand, with real china-ware bowl and pitcher, and with soap in a china dish, and on a rack more than a dozen towels--towels too clean and white for one out of practice to use without some vague sense of profanation.

2.       Are there any objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?
All the things that is inside the bed room have the symbolic meaning. All the things inside is look clean, it is like just has been use by a girl not long ago. Usually the girl room a far more cleaner than a boy room.

3.       Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?
The wife act as symbols, the wife is like just go outside and still alive. It represent like that his wife did not died, but just going out for a while. It make Henry’s feel better and made him forget what the reality was.

4.       Do aspects of the story’s setting seem symbolic? In what way?
Yes, the setting seems symbolic, because inside the house in a room, all the things inside that room seem symbolic. Each thing is like just been touch a while ago and it is clean, but actually that room has no one touch it for a long time.

5.       Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?
The symbol used all throughout the story, the symbol didn’t change at all. The entire symbol is just representing his wife. All the things inside the room is a symbols, all the girls room are clean and arrange in proper unlike boy room, all the things is mess around.

Imagery "The Californian's Tale"




1.       What scenes, moments, descriptive passages, phrases, or words stand out in your reading of the story?
The scenes that Henry show the room of his wife, it give me the image that the room is very clean, everything was on keep place, it let me feel that that person is just went out the room for a while. This scene was before the narrator tell that his wife was already passed away.

2.       Did a particular image make you feel happy, or frightened, or disturbed, or angry? Why?
The particular image made me feel frightened and some image made me feel sad. I feel frightened and sad at the same time that knowing his wife was already gone; she can never come back any more. Imagine like somebody that you love is never getting back again, it made me feel the same way. I can really feel it because in my real life I also had experience the same thing.


3.       Which of your five senses did this image appeal to? What do you associate with this image, and why? What do you think the author wants you to feel about a certain image?
I senses of sight, the image made me think of the room of his wife that has already passed away a long time, but the room was well kept and just like her just go out of the room. The author wants me to feel the same feeling as the main character Henry’s in the story.

4.       How do you think you reactions to the imagery in the story contribute to the overall meaning of the story?     
The imagery made me want to go back to imagine again and again about was is happening. This story needs a lot of imagination, without the imagination in this story it will be not fun.
