Imagery "The Californian's Tale"




1.       What scenes, moments, descriptive passages, phrases, or words stand out in your reading of the story?
The scenes that Henry show the room of his wife, it give me the image that the room is very clean, everything was on keep place, it let me feel that that person is just went out the room for a while. This scene was before the narrator tell that his wife was already passed away.

2.       Did a particular image make you feel happy, or frightened, or disturbed, or angry? Why?
The particular image made me feel frightened and some image made me feel sad. I feel frightened and sad at the same time that knowing his wife was already gone; she can never come back any more. Imagine like somebody that you love is never getting back again, it made me feel the same way. I can really feel it because in my real life I also had experience the same thing.


3.       Which of your five senses did this image appeal to? What do you associate with this image, and why? What do you think the author wants you to feel about a certain image?
I senses of sight, the image made me think of the room of his wife that has already passed away a long time, but the room was well kept and just like her just go out of the room. The author wants me to feel the same feeling as the main character Henry’s in the story.

4.       How do you think you reactions to the imagery in the story contribute to the overall meaning of the story?     
The imagery made me want to go back to imagine again and again about was is happening. This story needs a lot of imagination, without the imagination in this story it will be not fun.

Point of View "The Californian's Tale"



1.       What point of view does the story use?  Is the story told from a first-person perspective, in which the narrator is one of the characters in the story, and refers to himself as”I”? Or is the story told from a third-person perspective, in which the narrator is not one of the characters in the story or may not participate in the events of the story?
This story in first-person perspective, the narrator is not the main character, but he is the one how meet and know about the main character. The story didn’t make up; the story is in the real live that the narrator had met.

2.       What are the advantages of the chosen point of view? Does it furnish any clues as to the purpose of the story?
The point of view will tell us how did the narrator feel and how did view it. It will help us to know more about the character in the story. The story didn’t tell any clue, the author just tells the view.

3.       Is the narrator reliable or unreliable? Does he/she have a limited knowledge or understanding of characters and events in the story? Does the narrator know almost everything about one character or every character, including inner thoughts?
The narrator is reliable, he full understands about characters and events in the story. He know the most about Henry or the main character in the story, and he know what is in the inner thoughts of Henry.

4.       Does the author use point of view primarily to reveal or conceal? Does he ever unfairly withhold important information known to the focal character?
The author use the point of view primarily reveal. He just go through the view of one character, from what had happen to the character then how did the character act and last end with how did the character solve it. He didn’t not  withhold the information.

Characters "The Californian's Tale"




1   . Who is/ are the main character in the story? What does the main character look like?
The main character in this story is a man name Henry. He look just like a traditional Californian people.  He have a yellow hair, white skin, and brown eye(In my imagination).

2.       Describe the  main character’s situation. Where does he/she live? Does he/she live alone or with others? What does the main character do for a living, or is he/she dependent on others for support?
Henry's wife has passed away, but he thinks that his wife is just off on a trip, and that she will return on Saturday night.
He just lives in the place down toward Tuttle town. He lives alone by himself since his wife past away. He just living by himself alone and waiting his wife to come back home because he always think that his wife was still alive.


3.       What are some of the chief characteristics of the character? How are these characteristics revealed in the story? How does the main character interact with other characters? Note the degree of complexity of his/her behavior, thought, and fallings; their appearances, their habits, mannerisms, speech, attitudes and values. What is the main character’s attitude towards his/ her life? Is he/ she happy or sad, content or discontented? Why?
The main character name Henry just being happy all the time, he thought that his wife is coming back soon, but when the day come after he and his friends having the party for welcome his wife home he notice that his wife is dead and become very sad. His friends just come and have the party with him every year and put him to sleep at the end of the party. The main character attitude toward his life just had been stop in the time that his wife is still alive, he feel happy because of that, but when he noticed it after the party he will feel sad again. The attitudes will just never change that he love his wife.

4.       What sort of conflict in the character facing? How is this conflict reveled? Is it resolved? If so, how?
The conflict of the main character is facing the dead of his wife. The conflict is never ended because after him awake after the end of the party he need to face the conflict again. He just keep facing the same thing over and over again.


5.       Is any character a developing character? If so, is his change a large or a small one? Is it a plausible change for him? Is he sufficiently motivated? Is the change given sufficient time?
The main character Henry didn’t change any things, he just being happy until the end of the party after waking up for welcoming his wife home. His neighbor does this because he knows that when Henry awakes, he will realize that his wife is truly gone. The problem with this is that one year later they will have to repeat the fake party.
